Forest Tryout 2 by Torqual3D Forest Tryout 2 by Torqual3D
Improved attempt.  Combines Deep Shadow Map and Raytrace layers.  The Raytrace was a 19 hour render, so I may not do that again.

I love environments I would enjoy camping in. When I read a book, watch a movie or play a video game, tranquil ambiance in a certain locale catches my undivided attention. This is one of those environments: simple, natural, comfortable, peaceful and beautiful.

Aw thanks!  I was hoping to host a non-tranquil scary adventure in it, but maybe it doesn't seem a threatening enough environment after all!

Safe places are not so safe when dangerous people are lurking within them. Safe places become even more dangerous when they lower your anxiety.

You don't believe in taking short cuts or taking the easy option but the results speak for themselves.  Bravo!

I'm impressed! I like the detail, especially the elements of light and shadow. It looks appropriately shaded in the right places. I wouldn't mind spending an afternoon in such a forest.

19 hours...Wow.

Raytrace does tax the processing, in Poser I've had complicated scenes that I left render for a week but then I have three computers just in the living room
Good looking rendering for your efforts and patients

Oh man, I think have this set. I have yet to successfully run a decent quality render on it (largely due to the time it takes). Well done, it came out very nice :)

Thanks.  You can actually get a decent result using just one Distant Light with Deep Shadow Map and the UE2 light on the lowest settings.  That way you can get a render inside of 2 hours.

I've been meaning to puzzle it out, so I'll give that a try. Thanks!

If you have photoshop, the best thing to do is the two separate renders.  One with the distant light and one with the UE2.  The distant light will brighten some leaves but put large dark patches on the ground.  The UE2 will light everything a medium amount.  Then it's just a case of blending the two by combining the layers and adjusting the Opacity to taste.  That's how I did this firest one... torqual3d.deviantart.com/art/F…

Yeah,  I'm altogether too cheap to pick up photoshop. At least for the time being. Still, thanks for the tip. If I ever do cave and buy it, at least I'll have an idea of what to do! :D

Looks great T3D, I could see this in a videogame for sure. The shadows are all really well done, very realistic IMHO. I know it took a lot of time but it was worth it!

Still experimenting.  I have been dying to put the girls in a forest.  The problem is the render time.

I think that the raytracing is just crazy with all those leaves.

19 hours?

What Video Card do you have?
And how much RAM memory?

My specs are OK, but it's processor power that determines the render time.

Well I thought it would render while I went out for dinner.  Then I thought it would finish overnight.  Then I went out for the day and thought it would be finished when I got back.  Ultimately I just decided to let it run rather than cancel it, if only to see how long it would take.

I think it looks very good. Perhaps a bit dark but that could be expected under the canopy of trees.

I rarely attempt to do this kind of scenes, trees/grass make the render time awful
